The first official entry of hopefully something that won’t take another year to finish. There are plans being whispered over there. Ideas and thoughts I’m trying hard not to let escape. Film is brewing. Right now, it’s boxes of music.
Video of Dinosaur Jr. playing their cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” that I took at The Paradise the other night. Not awful quality. Lou rambles on for a minute at the beginning - but then the place goes nuts when they launch into it. Crowd surfing ensues. My ears are still ringing.
Impressive video for the new Local Natives tune. Do you ever gravitate towards a new song because you feel like you’ve already heard it a million times? Sometimes comfort can be a good thing - like with “Breakers”.
The new Dinosaur Jr. album has buckets of Red Sea parting riffs. At least four of them are in this song alone.
The Awl has been doing a “First Video That Meant Something To Me” feature to promote their new music app. So far, this feature has certainly caused me to reflect on my age - but also has me thinking about the first video that really had a profound influence on me. I came to the conclusion that it had to be They Might Be Giants. Truth be told it would probably be Birdhouse - but Ana Ng and I are getting old… Or, hell, Istanbul.
They really made me think about band mythos and iconography for the first time. At least outside of the typical metal band iconography. They still hold the spot of being the only band fan club that I’ve ever signed up for. Via mail anyhow.
Tim Heidecker tries to outdo Bob Dylan on his epic ode to the Titanic.
Reggie Watts serenades the NPR All Songs crew. Second song called Coffee Sips. Because no one records coffee sips the way NPR records coffee sips.
The good news is that Rize of the Fenix arrived today. And it included this poster:

Thanks, Insound. (Also for getting the amazing Beach House album to arrive on Monday. Wow.)
But sadly the mp3 downloading is a mess on The D’s site… anyway, you should know, album-wise, it is good overall but they saved the best song for last. 39, man. 39.

In honor of Fiona Apple’s fantastic performance at the Royale tonight - the (should be) classic Not About Love video.
